Triply-responsive boronic acid block copolymers: solution self-assembly induced by changes in temperature, pH, or sugar concentration.

Boronic acid-containing block copolymers capable of solution self-assembly into micelles and reverse micelles in response to changes in temperature, pH, and sugar concentration were prepared by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization.

Synthesis of sharply thermo and PH responsive PMA-b-PNIPAM-b-PEG-b-PNIPAM-b-PMA by RAFT radical polymerization and its schizophrenic micellization in aqueous solutions

Sharply thermo- and pH-responsive pentablock terpolymer with a core-shell-corona structure was prepared by RAFT polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide and methacrylic acid monomers using PEG-based benzoate-type of RAFT agent. The PEG-based RAFT agent could be easily synthesized by dihydroxyl-capped PEG with 4-cyano-4-(thiobenzoyl) sulfanylpentanoic acids, using esterification reaction. This pe...

Block copolymers containing organic semiconductor segments by RAFT polymerization.

Approaches to the synthesis of block copolymers containing organic semiconductor segments (polythiophene, perylene diimide) by RAFT polymerization have been explored. A method involving transformation of a vinyl derivative to a macro-RAFT agent provides for the synthesis of block copolymers which are joined by a short non-hydrolysable linkage.

The direct synthesis of sulfobetaine-containing amphiphilic block copolymers and their self-assembly behavior

Diblock copolymers containing the thermo-responsive sulfobetaine, [2-(methacryloyloxy) ethyl] dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl) ammonium hydroxide (DMAPS), were synthesized by the aqueous RAFT polymerization of DMAPS, followed by direct chain extension in hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) with methyl methacrylate (MMA). This was shown to give lower dispersity polymers than RAFT emulsion polymerization. The d...

pH-Responsive Non-Ionic Diblock Copolymers: Ionization of Carboxylic Acid End-Groups Induces an Order–Order Morphological Transition**

A carboxylic acid based reversible additionfragmentation transfer (RAFT) agent is used to prepare gels composed of worm-like diblock copolymers using two non-ionic monomers, glycerol monomethacrylate (GMA) and 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (HPMA). Ionization of the carboxylic acid end-group on the PGMA stabilizer block induces a worm-to-sphere transition, which in turn causes immediate degelatio...
